An electrokinetic storm is an extremely powerful and destructive astronomical phenomenon. In 2368, a Borg cube was damaged by an electrokinetic storm in the Nekrit Expanse in the Delta Quadrant. This resulted in all the Borg drones who were not killed by electromechanical discharges having their link to the Collective severed. The newly-independent drones eventually established a settlement on a planet in the Expanse. (VOY: "Unity")
