Perennials are a species of immortal entities which hold immense power, each serving a fundamental role in the Universe. The first generation came from the hermaphroditic Phanes, the first-born of Aion, and subsequent generations would increase the ranks of the Perennials. Eventually, a new race of immortal beings referred to as the “lesser spirits” came to exist, born from one of the younger generations of Perennials.
