Oliver is the name of the dog that William McIntyre supposedly had when he was a child. This is revealed in The Maze of Bones, and it is said William McIntyre and Oliver had a strong relationship, even though William was never an animal-kind of person according to him when he gave back Saladin to Amy and Dan. William McIntyre obviously loved Oliver, because he used his name as a password to his phone.
