Anglo-Indian actress Shelley King has played Yasmeen Nazir in Coronation Street since July 2014. She was born on 25th September 1955 in Calcutta, India. She was educated at the La Martinere School for Girls. Inspired by her grandfather's readings of Shakespeare and the thrill of watching stage productions in England from an early age she joined the National Youth Theatre at fourteen.She trained at the The Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art, graduating in 1977. Her first role was a regular role in the BBC series Angels and she has also appeared in The Jewel in the Crown, See How they Run, Banglatown Banquet, Holby City, A Secret Slave, Tandoori Nights (two series on Channel 4), King of the Ghetto ,Silent Witness, Casualty, EastEnders, South of the Border, Brookside and The Bill.
