After the 3626 general election, in which the LVP-HDV coalition under Janna Goddestreu had lost its majority, negotiations between HDV and the plurality left-wing Soldarity party ensued - however, the two parties failed to work out an agreement, and given the lack of other viable options, most leaders agreed that early elections were necessary. Not much of a campaign was held this time, and the results brought about little change after all.
