He cannot be killed until players collect bones from all three urns. In earlier versions of the game, killing him after that was not required: currently, however, the event cannot finished until he is defeated. Originally, he would despawn peacefully if not killed, but that was changed in one of the patches. In combat, he has Fast and Extra Health affixes, and will attack along with hordes of Skeletons.
