Julian Alsop is a forward who joined Rovers in 1997 from non-league side Halesowen Town, where prior to going full-time in football he was working as a hod carrier. He was one of a number of players that Rovers picked up from non-league teams around that time, alongside such players as Barry Hayles and Steve Foster.
