Red Ship was the name given by the Tortoise to those ships authorized to visit gaijin lands, only two each year, one in the spring, one in the fall. They were based in the eastern port of Kameyama Jima, a distant island used by the Tortoise as as their home away from home. The name was created after the red seal of the Kasuga daimyo bore in their authorization papers.
