In the 23rd century, Babylon was home to a Federation colony with a civilization based on trade and industry, and the location of a Starfleet support base. In the late 23rd century, the world had a population of less than 100,000 individuals of mixed and varied racial origins, and the government was a colonial member of the Federation.
