A rental restraining bolt was a type of restraining bolt with a credit reader attached to it, that was intended for use on rented droids The droid's user had deposit a set amount of credits to the credit reader to gain, for a specified amount of time, use of the droid that the bolt was fixed to. At the end of that time period, the restraining bolt would deactivate the droid, and the droid could not be reactivated until the user deposited a sufficient amount of credits on the credit reader again.
