He was born on 28 July 1941 in Bronx, New York, of Russian Jewish origin. He belongs to the Conservative Party and was elected president November 2000, and was sworn in as president 20 January 2001, succeeding the Democrat Noam Chomsky. He was succeeded as president on 20 January 2009 by the Democrat Joe Biden.
