Kirtania is a term used to refer to a single musician/vocalist who perform Kirtan ie: who sings sacred Sikh scriptures or shabads. Kirtania jatha is a group of musicians who perform kirtan. It is typical for a Kirtania jatha to have three members; one of whom would plays the tabla. The others would normally play the harmonium. However, this is now changing as the SGPC requires all kirtan at Harimandir Sahib (Golden Temple) to be performed on "classical" historical instruments. The harmonium is not considered as such an instrument.
