Following the rise of the Galactic Empire and Order 66, Bergamini was one of the few former Republic officers that was spared in the newly-declared Emperor's purges. Thus was due to the attention he received from Palpatine earlier for his naval tactical skill. The Emperor promoted Bergamini to the rank of admiral and gave him command of a small task force, known as Task Force Citadel. His forces played a minor role in the Reconquest of the Rim, a campaign by Darth Vader to re-subjugate the Outer Rim Territories. Bergamini continued to loyally serve the Empire into the Galactic Civil War, and was promoted to High Admiral in 4 BBY.
