Dr. Robotnik once held a protection service ("Pay me now or I'll pound ya later!"), taking away many of the citizens' money. Bert, however, was the only person of Mobius Corners that wouldn't pay, leaving him threatened by Ball Hog and Roller, and eventually Scratch and Grounder. With help from Sonic the Hedgehog, the people not only were free from Robotnik's greedy services, but they also got their money back.
