Bâlin was one of the seven sons of Galin Druinakh (or Druhr).He was, with his brothers Zigum, Furin I, Gurin II, Orin, and Druhar son of the Dwearf-woman Bori while the seventh brother, Naug Zigildun, was the son of Galin´s second wife Ori.
