Despite being classified as a currency, it is not something the player can accumulate and use to purchase items. It is earned from special quests (both regular quests and world quests) while in the zone Silithus. A running total is displayed in the top center of the screen while in the zone. The faction with more commendations at the end of the "Call of the Scarab" micro-holiday will have their faction's flag flown the Gates of Ahn'Qiraj until the holiday occurs again next year.
