The lyrics were written by Jack Grieve who was, at the time, the doorman at Granada Television's Quay Street studios and who later as an actor appeared in Coronation Street as Ernie Mills, Dave Smith's clerk at his bookies. The lyrics referred to the Rovers Return Inn, the Glad Tidings Mission Hall and the Corner Shop and the characters of Ena Sharples and Elsie Tanner though, incongruously for the time, it also referred to houses such as No.8, No. 10 and businesses such as the butcher's. The record appears not to have made it into the single's chart upon its release.
