A rod of cats is a black wooden rod seven feet (2.1m) in length, with a carved cat's head at one end. It is a magic +1 quarterstaff and when held, it improves the wielder's ability to climb, hide, move silently and see in the dark or low light. Once per day, the wielder can use the rod to cast darkness, and anyone holding the rod is immune to this spell's effects. There is a hidden compartment in the rod but it is only large enough to hold a scroll or some thieves' tools. The rod is worth around 25,000 gold pieces.
