A 'Barani' is a front somersault with a half twist. It has a two-foot punch take-off and a two-foot landing. An aerial barani aka "no handed round off" starts with a hurdle step, one-foot aerial take-off, and a two foot landing. It is named after Italian circus acrobat and tumbler Alfonso Baroni who "invented" the front salto with ½ twist around 1881. Instructions on one method to learn a Barani are here.
