Gristle Tatum was a slaughterer. He was the brother of Twig's wife, Sinew Tatum. In Beyond the Deepwoods, Twig helped Gristle get back to his village after be was bitten by a hover-worm. Many years later, Gristle raised Twig's daughter, Keris.
