Through the U.S. Army Prime Power Program, under AR 700-128, the Chief of Engineers is given the responsibility of providing emergency and mobilization, utility-grade electric power to Department of Defense and Federal Agencies. Direction of the Prime Power Program is given to the Commander of the 249th Engineer Battalion (Prime Power) which encompasses the Prime Power School and the Prime Power Generator Program.
