Oiwa's family initially consisted of herself and her husband, Tagosaku. Oiwa soon meet an orphan, Rei, whom she adopted and employed in her outdoor bathhouse, the Senboukyou. The Senboukyou was used as a resting place for lingering spirits (stands) to help them move on to the afterlife. Oiwa's husband, Tagosaku, would soon die and leave Oiwa to herself. In her loneliness she wouldn't accept the spirits moving on, so she used the Senboukyou as a means to keep them bound to Earth. However, with some help from the Yorozuya and Rei she eventually realized her wrongdoings and made amends. The Senboukyou is now run by Oiwa and Rei.
