Anakin Skywalker was a Human slave boy from Tatooine. He was later renamed Darth Vader after being corrupted by the dark side of the Force and taken as an apprentice by Darth Sidious in 19 BBY. His fall to the dark side took time; Sidious tempted Anakin with the dark side frequently after Qui-Gon discovered him on Tatooine. Sidious, however, did not know that Anakin was aware of Sidious's true identity until close to the end of the Clone Wars, which started three years before.
