The Protokynegos is responsible for the imperial hunt. Besides being charged with the responsibility of overseeing the imperial hunt the holder of the position takes care of the Imperial hunting dogs (about 150 hounds). The Protokynegos oversees ten squires, ten huntsmen, three aides, seven valets for the hounds and two dog handlers for the foxhounds.
