When initially brought into the series, Hendrikse auditioned for the roles of Twilight Sparkle, Rainbow Dash, and Pinkie Pie before receiving an audition for Gilda. In an interview, Hendrikse has described her voice direction for Gilda as having a raspy lion-like growl in her speech. In original recordings for Griffon the Brush Off, Hendrikse's portrayal of Gilda was "younger" and "higher-pitched." In previous generations of My Little Pony, Hendrikse provided the voice of Brights Brightly in My Little Pony Crystal Princess: The Runaway Rainbow.
