In 2157, civil unrest erupted over the continued exploitation of mass-produced Specialists. Specialists took hostages in Lunar City's underground sector, demanding an end to cloning for profit, a re-institution of reproductive and civil rights for Specialists, and a homeworld to call their own. Popular opinion favored the Specialists, and the Centaurans threatened to withdraw from the Stellar Consortium if those demands were not met. Thus, in accordance with a new document called the Genetic Engineering Limitations Treaty (GELT), the Specialists were given Luna and granted the rights of any other Consortium citizen. The practice of manufacturing human beings for sale was banned. So the new race known as Lunas was born.
