The Shanks-class was a Starfleet class of light cruiser on active duty in Starfleet from the last quarter of the 23rd century to least 2367. The initial bloc of ships were commissioned in the 2270s. The class was considered cost-effective, and consisted of a saucer-shaped primary hull with two warp nacelles directly attached. Shanks-class cruisers had a maximum velocity of warp factor 9.
