As part of the A-6 excavation team, he was aboard the transport Arctic One which was sent to search and investigate a debris field in the Arctic Circle on Earth in 2153. When the team found the remains of a Borg sphere and two alien lifeforms they built up a base camp for further research. Drake made a bet with Commander Williams about finding it, and won a bottle of scotch.
