Iolcos is a port city situated in Thessaly, Greece, sometime after its military detachment left for the Trojan War. It is the hometown of Jason, whose uncle Pelias (who in turn is the half-brother of his father and rightful ruler of Iolkos, Aeson) sent him to the famous campaign to Colchis (modern day Georgia) to steal the Golden Fleece, along with a group of other mythical heroes (including Atalanta and Herakles), known as the Argonauts, from their ship, The Argo.
