Kojiin Horiuchi was the orphanage where the Horiuchi family cared all orphans of war they adopted. Though most samurai children had distant family willing to care for them, in large conflicts a few unwanted orphans always remained. Horiuchi Shugenja wandered the villages of war-torn lands, looking for such orphans. The children were raised and the Horiuchi offered them a chance to swear fealty to the small family.
