The crossbowman is the alternate upgrade of the Archer, the second-level creature of the Haven town, in Heroes of Might and Magic V: Tribes of the East. While the marksman's Precise Shot ability lets it do increased damage to nearby enemies, the Crossbowman's No Range Penalty means it does the same damage no matter how far away the enemy is. So if you plan on staying far away from the enemy, the crossbowman is the better choice.
