In the navy of the Galactic Empire, the fighter wing usually referred to all of the starfighters carried aboard an Imperial-class Star Destroyer, which amounted to six squadrons or seventy-two starfighters and bombers. Each squadron was typically divided into three flights of four fighters, but each flight could separate into two elements of two fighters. The types of starfighters used within an Imperial fighter wing varied, with wings stationed on newer front-line vessels such as Executor-class Star Dreadnoughts making greater use of advanced fighters such as the TIE/IN interceptor.
