The Servo Seven was originally a group of seven droids, who believed that droids' second-class status in galactic society was unfair. The droids seized a droid manufacturing plant and held it for two weeks, shutting down production to bring attention to their cause. The droids then escaped capture, lending them even greater fame. The symbol of this cause was a stylized gear with the number 7 on it. This symbol was used by pro-droid groups, as well as anti-droid groups, who would use it to sign their violent acts in an attempt to discredit droid rights movements.
