The Winchester Model 1887 is an American lever-action Shotgun designed by John Browning in 1887. As most shotguns at the time were Double Barrels, the 1887 was created due to demand for a repeating shotgun by lawmen and cowboys. The shotgun utilized the lever-action operation that Winchester's rifles were known for and became very popular with Law Enforcement and gunslingers, although the military would go on to prefer Browning's later model 1897 pump-action shotgun. Modern versions of the shotgun are reproductions created to fire modern shotshells, as the original weapon fired black powder shells.
