Patterknife was one of William Gladstone's Afrits, who served in the Siege of Prague. He came in the form of a boy and wielded a scythe which he used to defend himself from Bartimaeus's attacks, and attack him. As an Afrit, he defeated Bartimaeus easily, but Bartimaeus was saved just in time by his master killing himself accidentally with an detonation stick.
