Raphael 'Rafe' Valentine is Beka Valentine's brother. He was a notorious scam artist, and when he encountered the Andromeda Ascendant he was working under cover for the Free Trade Alliance as a Wayist. He and Serenity Vikram Singh Khalsa, a famous Wayist priest, were on-board their courier vessel the Om Shanti when Serenity became ill. They sent out a distress call to the Andromeda, who was nearby, and were brought aboard. In a convoluted series of events, it turned out that although Rafe appeared to be a Wayist apprentice, he was also a conman and an undercover agent for the Free Trade Alliance in order to bring down the Restorian movement.
