The gameplay plays like Mario Kart 8, bringing back the ability to customize karts along with the abilities to drive in the air and underwater. In addition, anti-gravity makes a reappearance, although it isn't as heavy as last time. The main new feature is Turbo Moves. They can be activated after you build up enough speed, but they can only be used once per race. Other than that, items and Retro Courses return, and familiar Mario characters both return and appear. In addition, skins for each character will be available with the character by selecting their avatar on the character select screen.
