The Journal Orb is an odd contraption found in The Broken Halls. It "speaks with the Cohesive's voice" and details his experiments from his perspective. It seems to have some amount of sentience in it, as it is able to engage in a different conversation with the player each week. However, if the player is not wielding a Zarosian weapon, it will merely say "ALERT! INTRUDER DETECTED! Chamber! Here boy!" and summon Chamber, a very powerful and high-level monster to fight you. It has different conversations depending on which of the two major Zaros weapons you are wielding.
