Smutko is namesake to the characters, Lieutenant Alex Smutko and Engineer Alex Smutko, whose names appeared on numerous dedication plaques and okudagrams, and also Alexander Smutkov. An element, Smutkoian, on a futuristic periodic table was also named for him.
