Noel is an agnostic. He has stated numerous times that he admires those who can believe in God, but that he is unable to. Although Noel is not religious, his lyrics frequently contain references to God, which he says are "great imagery." Noel has also stated "I don’t know what I am. If I was an atheist I’d just write songs about not believing in God - but I don’t know what I am."
