The unnamed and uniformed Salvation Army Girl came into the Rovers Return Inn one night in September 1970 selling copies of her organisation's newspaper The War Cry. Ray Langton bought one on an off-chance and it gave him the idea of going along to one of their meetings for a laugh, though in the event Lucille Hewitt heard testimony there from a young man named John Hill which awakened her social conscience.
