Born in Blackburn, Lancashire on 19th May 1938, Madge Hindle played Renee Roberts in Coronation Street between 1976 and 1980. Previous to playing Renee, Madge had been Mayoress of Blackburn in 1966 when her mother was Mayor and two years later played Lilly Tattersall in the Granada sit-com Nearest and Dearest. A close friend of playwright Alan Bennett, she has appeared in several of his teleplays and also had a regular role in the 1990s sit-com Barbara.
