The DMM1 signature model is based on the ICX series body which is a smaller version of the Iceman. Malakian had been using ICX models previously. All DMM1 guitars have graphics created by Daron's father, Vartan Malakian, who also designed the cover art for System of a Down's double album Mezmerize/Hypnotize. This guitar was a limited production model, with only 300 copies offered worldwide. Each copy was numbered on the headstock below the serial number.
