When Voyager was hit by the gravimetric force of a spatial rift, it caused different timelines to appear on the ship. In one timeline, Seska took over engineering five years previous with the help of Rulat and the Kazon. Chakotay encountered them again during the effects of the spatial rift. Rulat, Seska, and the rest of the Kazon were defeated by the rest of the people in different timelines, who banded together to restore the present.
