Phyllis Roberts (née Plant) was the first wife of Alf Roberts. Their marriage was a loveless one, as Alf had only married her out of a sense of duty to his brother Malcolm's memory. She died after a long battle with cancer in September 1972, leaving Alf a widower and free to pursue women he was better suited to.
