El'qa Squa Zreenah spent his life fighting against the Statejians. Only when he received a Green Lantern power ring did he realize that their defeat might actually be possible. El-qa Sqa Zreenah was in the midst of a vicious space battle with the Statejians, an alien race which maintained an almost supernatural ability to strategically calculate a battle and anticipate their enemies every move. Outfitted with yellow hulled "dragonfly" battleships, the invaders proved too tough for the Green Lantern of Sector 2234. Despite fighting bravely, El-qa Sqa Zreenah was downed by enemy fire and crashed on a nearby planet. He was gravely wounded and believed he would soon be dead. As protocol dictated, he willed his ring to scan the planet for a suitable replacement.
