The City Guards in The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall protect cities, towns, villages and settlements from danger. They will attack the Hero if they have committed a crime, and a message will pop up asking you if you want to surrender or fight back. If other hostile enemies (such as giant bats) come in range, they will attempt to kill them.
