November 8: Senator Joe Biden and Senator Al Gore hold a joint rally in Dover, Delaware. Biden wins an electoral landslide over Vice-President George H.W. Bush and Senator Dan Quayle. Biden does unexpectedly well in some southern states. Democrats also make some small gains in the house and senate. November 17: Biden names Georgia Senator Sam Nunn as his White House Chief of Staff, Making him the first member of Biden's cabinet named. This choice is well received by members of both parties.
