Ben works for Spurs Jackson on the Bar-Z Ranch. When Jane McLeod shows up by the neighboring McLeod Ranch, she tells Spurs her father, Pop McLeod, has been shot. Ben warms up Spurs's light plane. Spurs tells Ben to take Jane to the sheriff's office to report on the matter.
