The Barony of Cortiaari is not a powerful, or major title, and the family has yet to produce a single notable individual. The young scion of the house, Rickard Halperin, next in line to the barony, is intent on rectifying that. The ambitious teenager is acutely aware of the galaxy stretching out around him, the vast, infinite expanse of stars and the microcosm that is Cortiaari. His father’s going to live an awfully long time, and when he does finally take the title, there’s very little it can offer him. The family seat, Coris Nova, is a backwater, and he’s stuck in it.
